Keep cyclists and pedestrians safe.
North Point Promenade has made history as Hong Kong's first shared path for both cyclists and pedestrians. To enhance safety and promote harmonious use of the space, the AI Transportation Guardian for Shared Path, PathKeeper, has been deployed by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD). This cutting-edge system leverages advanced technologies such as computer vision, object detection, homography, and projective geometry to monitor cyclists’ speeds and pedestrian flow in real time.
Currently, two robot units have been deployed along the North Point Promenade, actively safeguarding users and fostering a safer coexistence between cyclists and pedestrians. This innovative solution is a model for improving shared path safety in urban environments.
Key features:
- Visual alerts to users when a cyclist exceeds a predefined speed threshold, ensuring immediate awareness and safety.
- Simultaneous speed measurement of multiple cyclists and runners, surpassing the capabilities of traditional radar speed guns.
- Privacy protection through automatic face masking in snapshots taken by the system.
- A dedicated web interface providing detailed statistics on human flow and alarm events for analysis and management.
- Mobility, allowing the system to be relocated easily to other shared paths as needed.
